Are Manipulators Affecting Your Life?

Middle school serves as the epicentre of either our growth or destruction. These years are extremely crucial and several bullets are constantly being shot at you, you need to dodge them. One of these bullets is ‘Manipulative People.’ 

Out of all the different kinds of people, manipulative ones are the hardest to spot. Manipulators may appear to be genuine and respectable humans in the beginning but slowly their actual traits start to come into sight. The following are some characteristics of manipulative people. 

• They devour on your emotions 

They become friends with you because of your sweet and kind personality. They may serve to your wonderful qualities and praise you for being the wonderful human being you are. Later on, they will make use of the same qualities. You need to know that they don’t love you for what you are but for the deeds you do for them. I know a girl in my school, her manipulative friend only is friends with her because she doesn’t have anyone else to hang out with and doesn’t want to seem like a ‘loner’. She constantly uses her for her own benefit and takes advantage of her.

• Never take the blame

Manipulators never take the blame for anything they do. They want to blame others and victimize them. Victimization makes them seem superior and more powerful. They just slide through their entire life by lying and blaming. Reputation is manipulators only source of life and hence they cannot let anything ruin it. Therefore, they blame others to strengthen their reputation and power. 

• Constantly undercut your confidence 

Manipulators lower your self-esteem and confidence so that they can control you and use you. The lower your confidence the easier it becomes for them to make use of you. Again, doing this makes them feel superior and important. The same girl I talked about earlier, her self-confidence is going down day-by-day because of her manipulative so-called ‘friend’. She doesn’t trust herself or her actions and the manipulative friend makes use of this for getting everything her way. 

• Steer the conversations in different directions

Manipulators consider themselves as the most important people in the universe and hence want to make everything about them. If a heated discussion is going on they will steer it the other way to conceal their manipulative traits or when there is an argument where they are getting proved wrong they will play the reverse card in order to make their view seem correct.

• Are unaware of the concept of personal place and boundaries    

Manipulators don’t understand the concept boundaries. They may go any distance in order to get what they want inconsiderate about how the other person feels. To them, all that matters is their satisfaction, and to attain that they can cross borders. They will have no respect or concern for who they destroy in the process.
